We hear a lot about AMH, we test AMH levels, but what do we really know about AMH?

1. AMH is a protein produced by the follicles and is an indicator of ovarian reserve.

Its level decreases as the woman grows older:

Younger age = More oocytes = Higher AMH level

Or else

Older age = Fewer oocytes = Lower AMH level

2. A very high AMH value is a risk factor for PCOS.

3. Depending on the AMH level and the age of the woman, the fertility expert may recommend a treatment to preserve her fertility (oocyte cryopreservation).

4. The AMH level helps the fertility expert to tailor the treatment in case of assisted reproduction.

5. The average AMH level at the age of 30 is 5ng / mL, while at 40  is 1ng / mL.

And

6. Low AMH does not mean that a woman cannot get pregnant.

It just means that the time available for a pregnancy is limited and it is recommended to ask for the advice of a fertility expert.
