Our IVF lab

At Gennima IVF we are proud of our embryology laboratory!

We have created a strong embryologist team with experience, scientific training and most of all passion for the positive result of every patient’s treatment. Every day the team works meticulously, conscientiously, focused and with a lot of attention to every detail.

Our embryologists contribute with their knowledge and their experience to the high success rates of our patients' treatments. Updating and communicating with every patient is on the top of their list. From the day one of the egg retrieval to the embryo transfer, they are in constant communication with the couple and they inform them about the progress of the embryos. Before the embryo transfer, they hand a written report with the overall embryos’ stages and also photos of the transferred embryos. For our embryologists, patients are not just a name, but familiar faces.

Our embryologists participate in the continuing training program, in conferences in Greece and abroad, often with presentations and speeches.

Our facilities are designed, equipped and operate daily under the strictest standards with a unique criterion and purpose: your success on your try for a healthy baby.

In our laboratory the air management system is in accordance with the European Directive.

It produces air under positive pressure which is constantly renewed and in addition is filtered and free from particles and microorganisms.

Also, our laboratory is made entirely of inert materials, that means materials selected in order not to release toxic substances inside the laboratory, where the embryos are cultured.

The Incubator system Embryoscope+

The new EbryoScope+ incubator system that we use in our embryology lab is the newest and most advanced technology for the development and selection of the best embryos.

They have a built-in camera with time-lapse technology so embryologists have the ability to constantly monitor the culture of embryos without having to move them from the safe environment of the incubator.

Gennima IVF is one of the few medically assisted reproduction units in Greece that have invested in EmbryoScope+ system, as you can see for yourself from the official EmbryoScope+ website.

How does it work?

The new EmbryoScope + incubators have a built-in camera with time-lapse technology and a microscope. They take a photo of each embryo every 10 minutes and a video is created that shows the culture of each embryo for the days that remain in the incubator (3-5 days)

Embryologists then use specialized software to examine the videos of each embryo and decide which embryos should be transferred or frozen.

Of course, the experience of embryologists in selecting the most suitable embryos remains extremely important for the success of each couple's try.

With EmbryoScope+ system the embryos remain in the stable environment of the incubator and are not disturbed throughout their development.

What’s the advantage?

The use of time-lapse technology has been associated with significantly higher rates of clinical pregnancy, significantly lower miscarriages and increased birth rates compared to conventional culture.

In incubators, the embryos develop with the help of culture media. The quality of these materials is critical to the success of the IVF cycle. In Gennima we select and use only cultivation media of excellent quality.

Techniques

In the embryological laboratory are performed all the tests and the most advanced and effective techniques of assisted reproduction:

  • Andrology: semen analysis, oxidative stress measurement and examination DFI
  • Collection of testicular biopsy specimens with a fine needle (PESA, TESA, TESE)
  • Egg collection, evaluation and processing before fertilization
  • (IVF) or  (ICSI)
  • Special techniques for severe male infertility: PICSI, IMSI
  • Cultivation and evaluation of embryos for transfer
  • Blastocyst culture and embryo transfer
  • Sperm, eggs and embryos cryopreservation
  • Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) for the control for hereditary diseases or chromosomal abnormalities.
