It seems that the ERA test is another IVF add-on that does not deliver what it promises.
What is ERA testing?
Endometrial receptivity array (ERA) is a diagnostic procedure that may help determine whether the endometrial cavity is ready for embryo implantation. ERA involves biopsying a small sample of the endometrium, or lining of the uterus, for molecular analysis.
Fertility expert Mr. Evripidis Mantoudis FRCOG comments:
According to new data it appears that ERA test does not predict the implantation window. Although it had been promoted at conferences in recent years, I had always been skeptical about its value and whether it could deliver what it promised.
I know many of you have looked it up on the internet, have read about it - whether it could solve the difficulties of your ttc. The truth is that we proceeded to the ERA test in very few cases, with every reservation, as I mentioned. Today, it seems my choice not to recommend it to my patients has been vindicated.
So it turned out that the ERA test does not predict the day of implantation and ultimately it is an intervention that increases the cost and stress of the patient. Αs a procedure, it includes endometrial biopsy after preparation by taking estrogen for 12-14 days and progesterone for 5 days.
I wish it would give us some really useful information... But it turns out that's not the case...
At this point, I want to point out that from time-to-time various practices / tests / methods emerge as useful IVF add-ons. But only a few of them really work. The doctor's experience and knowledge will help the couples to choose the best, safest and easiest way for their treatment.
