George Pistofidis MB.BS. FRCOG
Dr. George Pistofidis graduated with honours from the University of Genova, Italy in 1980.
Thereupon he was accepted at Guy’s Hospital London where he was attached to Departments of Surgery followed by Medicine and finally Obstetrics until 1981.Following this he fulfilled his pre-registration as House Physician in Cardiology, General Medicine and Rheumatology at Dreadnought Seamen’s Hospital, London and then as House Surgeon in Orthopaedics, Traumatology and Surgery at Lewisham Hospital, London. Between 1983 -1987 he joined the department of Obstertics and Gynaecology at Lewisham Hospital London where he became registrar.
In 1987, he was appointed registrar in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Luton and Dunstable Hospital and then at Hammersmith Hospital, London where he was appointed Senior Registrar in 1990. In 1988 he became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) having passed written and oral exams successfully. RCOG is internationally famous for its high quality training. Other affiliations include European Economic Community – Certificate of Specialist Training and Accreditation and the European Examination for Excellency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in September 2000 for his significant contribution to Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He is a member of American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL); European Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (ESGE); International Society for Gynecological Endoscopy (ISGE); European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE), and American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM).
Presently, Dr. Pistofidis is Director of the Department of Gynaecological Surgery at Lefkos Stavros Hospital, Athens. As the director of the advanced surgical unit he has carried out numerous advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgical procedures in addition to a number of microsurgical procedures. The unit has now become a major referral centre for endometriosis and uterine pathology with an emphasis on uterine preservation surgery.
He is also a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mitera Maternity and Surgical Centre, Athens; Consultant at Gennima Fertility Centre which offers a comprehensive range of fertility services including IUI, IVF, ICSI ,TESA as well as hysteroscopic therapies.
Finally, he is the director of ACET (Associated Centers of Endoscopic Training). Where, level 1 to 4 workshops are held for surgeons from both Greece and abroad. Courses cover theoretical tutorials, hands on experience on simulators and live theatre demonstrations. ACET also organizes major international conferences in laparoscopic surgery.
Dr Pistofidis has participated in numerous national and international conferences where he has had the opportunity to share his knowledge and research findings with fellow doctors. His work has also been published in a variety of medical journals and periodicals.
